Badminton: Tang Jie-Ee Wei stun Japan's world No. 2 Watanabe-Higashino in World Tour Finals

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei kept alive their hopes of reaching the last four of the World Tour Finals with a stunning win over Japan's world No. 2 Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino.

World No. 8 Tang Jie-Ee Wei fought brilliantly to come from behind to beat Watanabe-Higashino 12-21, 21-16, 21-16 in their second Group A match at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium on Thursday (Dec 14).

It was Tang Jie-Ee Wei's first victory over the Japanese pair after losing both their previous matches against them in straight games.

The national pair will next take on Thailand's world No. 6 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in their last group match on Friday (Dec 15) and need to win again to be assured of a spot in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik's chances of making it to the last four appear bleak after they narrowly went down 21-19, 18-21, 20-22 to China's defending champions Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will now need to beat another Chinese pair, world No. 1 Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals.
