Norza makes U-turn, will remain BAM president

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Norza Zakaria will not be stepping down from his position as president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) this month.

Norza had decided to resign from his post earlier in the year but has now made a U-turn after holding discussions with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and the other BAM council members.

"Firstly, I would like to thank Hannah for her support and her request for me to stay on as BAM president," Norza said at a press conference after chairing a BAM council meeting at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Saturday (Dec 16).

"After careful consideration, encouragement from the Sports Minister and discussions with the other council members, I have decided to remain as BAM president.

"I also made this decision to ensure that there will not be any disruptions to our shuttlers' preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics," added Norza.
