Zii Jia gets Asia team spot and another chance to come good at home

Early disappointment: Shuttler Lee Zii Jia did not get the breakthrough he sorely wanted at the Malaysian Open this week after losing to China's Lu Guangzu.

PETALING JAYA: Singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia has received another opportunity to come good at home after the Malaysian Open disappointment.

Zii Jia has accepted an invitation from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to be part of the Asia Badminton Team Championships from Feb 13-18 in Shah Alam.

It was a positive news, considering that Zii Jia had been down after losing in the first round of the ongoing Malaysian Open at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

In a statement made by Team LZJ, the world No. 11 said he was looking forward to playing for the nation again.

"Second chances are hard to come by, especially one this swift, the opportunity to not only perform in Malaysia but with team Malaysia is something not to be wasted," said the statement.

"We can confirm that Lee Zii Jia and Team LZJ have accepted the invitation from BAM to serve at the Asia meet.

The team announced that they would skip the German Open from Feb 27-March 3 to give focus on the Asia Team assault.

"When healthy and able, we will always heed the call of national duty. We will make some adjustments, including forgoing the German Open."
