Anders displays A-game to continue Denmark's dominance in Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Denmark's Anders Antonsen captured the men's singles title in the Malaysian Open after stunning China's world No. 6 Shi Yuqi 21-14, 21-14 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Sunday (Jan 14).

The victory continued the Danish dominance in the competition after world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen had triumphed in the last two editions.

In the women's singles, South Korea's world No. 1 An Se-young signalled her return to form after a knee injury last October by overcoming Taiwan's Tai Tzu-ying 10-21, 21-10, 21-18 to win the title.

There was also double joy for China after Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang and Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning, who captured the men's and women's doubles crowns.

World No. 1 Weikeng-Wang Chang came from behind to beat India's world No. 2 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty 9-21, 21-18, 21-17 while Shengshu-Tan Ning recorded a 21-18, 21-18 win over teammates Zhang Shuxian-Zheng Yu.

The mixed doubles title went to Japan's Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino, who upstaged South Korea's Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun 21-18, 21-15.

Men’s doubles: Liang Weikeng-Wang Chang (Chn) bt Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty (Ind) 9-21, 21-18, 21-17.

Women’s singles: An Se-young (Kor) bt Tai Tzu-ying (Tpe) 10-21, 21-10, 21-18.

Women’s doubles: Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning (Chn) bt Zhang Shuxian-Zheng Yu (Chn) 21-18, 21-18.

Mixed doubles: Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino (Jpn) bt Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun (Kor) 21-18, 21-15.
