Zii Jia makes it to quarter-finals but Jun Hao crashes out in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: Professional singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia continued his winning run in the Indonesian Masters by advancing to the quarter-finals after defeating Hong Kong's Angus Ng Ka Long at Istora Senayan, Jakarta on Thursday (Jan 25)..

Zii Jia, the world's 10th ranked player, secured a 22-20, 21-15 victory in the second round match that lasted 46 minutes.

This marks Zii Jia's third win against Ka Long, having previously defeating him at the 2019 German Open and the 2022 Asian Games.

The 2023 Arctic Open champion will face either India's Priyanshu Rajawat or Canada's Brian Yang in the battle for a spot in the semi-finals.

Jun Hao faced a different fate as he lost 15-21, 17-21 to the third seed Anthony Ginting of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing also made it to the last eight after beating teammates Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See 21-12, 21-16.

The 2022 Korean Open champions will next meet the top seeds Zheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong from China who defeated Singapore's Terry Hee Yong-Jessica Tan Wei 21-12, 16-21, 21-19 in another second round match.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing have lost eight times to the silver medallists of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

It was over for Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei after both pairs lost lost 10-21, 16-21 to Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun and 21-12, 13-21, 14-21 to Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto-Lisa Ayu Kusumawati of Indonesia respectively. - Bernama
