PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei maintained their upward momentum to enter the semi-finals of the Thailand Masters.
Tang Jie-Ee Wei stopped a late fightback from Holland’s Robin Tabeling-Selena Piek before wrapping up their quarter-final match with a 21-12, 25-23 win in 40 minutes at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.
The first game went relatively smoothly for the Malaysian pair as they kept the lead starting from 4-3 but the second proved to be a challenge as the Dutch fought back. The lead kept changing but Tang Jie-Ee Wei prevailed at the end. It was their third win against the Dutch pair in four meetings, with their last encounter being at the 2023 Japan Open that went in the Malaysians’ favour.
They will play Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito of Japan who outwitted Thailand’s Ruttanapak Oupthong-Jhennicha Sudjaipraparat 21-16, 21-16.
National mixed doubles coach Nova Widianto said the pair’s right tactical moves paid off.
“They played according to the strategy, but did make some mistake when they were leading 11-8 in the second game,” said Nova.
“The good thing is that they found a way to bounce back and claim the victory.
“I feel that they played a much better match today compared to the second round (against teammates Hoo Pan Ron-Cheng Su Yin),” he added.
