Back injury forces Tze Yong to withdraw from French Open, All-England

Men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong has withdrawn from the French Open (March 5-10) and All-England (March 12-17).

PETALING JAYA: National men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong has withdrawn from the back-to-back French Open (March 5-10) and All-England (March 12-17) as he is set to undergo minor surgery to fix his back injury.

Tze Yong suffered an injury to his spinal disc in the Asia Team Championships last week and had hoped to recover in time for the European tourneys.

The 23-year-old, however, will have to go through surgery that will rule him out for two to six weeks.

"Our focus is on Tze Yong’s treatment and recovery process," said national coaching director Rexy Mainaky.

"Once he has recovered, we will discuss the next course of action.

"For now, we want him to concentrate on treating and overcoming this injury."

Tze Yong, who is currently ranked No. 16 in the world, now looks certain to miss out on a spot in the Paris Olympics.
