PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttler Cheng Su Hui is keen to draw inspiration from her former partner and twin sister Su Yin.
Su Yin has done well in the mixed doubles with Hoo Pang Ron.
She won the Malaysian International Challenge title last year and reached the semi-finals at the Syed Modi International in India last year.
Determined to follow her sister, Su Hui hopes to do the same with her women’s doubles partner Lee Xin Jie.
They have been paired up this year and are set to make their first competitive appearance in the China Masters from March 19-24.
The Cheng sisters used to play together and even won the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games bronze medal but since last year, they have gone separate ways.
“I want to be as successful as my twin sister. I’m starting with Xin Jie but we are working on our communication,” said Su Hui after a training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara yesterday.
“When I first started training with her, I couldn’t adapt to it and found communicating difficult because I’m an introvert.
“I had to be open to be able to lead my partner, who is younger than me to move forward together.”
Despite the challenges, Su Hui and Xin Jie are aiming to reach at least the quarter-finals in China.
“I’m not a junior player any more and there is pressure to perform but I’m using it as a driving force to achieve good results,” said Su Hui.
Su Hui-Xin Jie will face Taiwan’s Lin Yen-yu-Tsai Ruo-lin in the first round of the China tourney.
