PETALING JAYA: Leong Jun Hao secured the biggest win of his career when he sent world No. 7 Anthony Ginting of Indonesia packing to storm into the Singapore Open quarter-finals on Thursday.
World No. 36 Jun Hao notched a 21-14, 10-21, 21-8 win in 34 minutes to send the two-time Singapore Open champion packing in the second round.
The Singapore Open is Jun Hao’s first appearance in a super 750 tournament.
Ginting, who had skipped the Thailand Open and Malaysian Masters, was seeded seventh in Singapore and received a walkover from another Malaysian Lee Zii Jia in the first round.
Zii Jia had conceded a walkover to the Indonesian due to a hamstring injury. Jun Hao is expected to meet world No. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in the last eight tomorrow.
