Thank you Minister, says coach Nova on grant for pros

PETALING JAYA: Nova Armada is thankful to the Youth and Sports Ministry for their financial assistance to the professional athletes bound for the Paris OIympics from July 26-Aug 11.

Nova’s charge, women’s singles shuttler Goh Jin Wei was among the four athletes given RM300,000 grant to aid their preparations for the showpiece event.

The other three who benefited were men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia and golfers Gavin Green and Ashley Lau.

Nova believes the cash injection was well deserved and was very useful to the likes of Jin Wei and Zii Jia, who depend on sponsors to compete in tournaments.

“This is good news for Jin Wei and the others as they depend on sponsors to play in tournaments,” said Nova.

“Sometimes they need to bring out their own money and limit their participation in tournaments due to tight budget.

“These athletes have qualified on merit for the Olympics and will after all be representing the country.

“So, they deserve to receive this grant. I’m very thankful to the ministry for giving this.”

Jin Wei and Ashley will be making their debuts in the Olympics while Zii Jia will be making his second appearance after his maiden outing in the last edition in 2021 in Tokyo.

Gavin will be competing in his third Olympics after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo editions.
