Tang Jie-Ee Wei smash into Korean Open final

Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie (left) and Toh Ee Wei have made it into their third final this year in the Korean Open.

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei brought cheers on Merdeka day when they stormed into the final of the Korean Open.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei stayed cool in a closely fought last four match to edge China's world No. 31 Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi 22-20, 21-19 in 50 minutes in Mokpo on Saturday (Aug 31).

The world No. 9 pair have now reached their third final this year and will be out to go one better and win the title after finishing runners-up in both the Thailand Masters in January and Swiss Open in March.

Standing in Tang Jie-Ee Wei's way in the final will be another Chinese pair, Guo Xinwa-Li Qian.

The newly formed pair stunned homesters and Paris Olympics silver medallists Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun 21-14, 22-24, 21-10 to book their spot in the final.
