Liek Hou smashes his way to final but Fareez loses

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Cheah Liek Hou is just one step away from defending his gold medal after storming into the men's singles SU5 (upper body impairment) final in the Paris Paralympics.

Liek Hou pulled off a superb 21-17, 21-17 win over arch rival Dheva Anrimusthi of Indonesia in the last four at Adidas Arena in Port de la Chapelle on Sunday (Sept 1).

The 36-year-old will take on Dheva's teammate Suryo Nugroho in the final at 11.20 pm (Malaysian Time) on Monday (Sept 2).

Suryo ended the hopes of all-Malaysian final after beating Fareez Anuar 21-12, 14-21, 21-6 the other semi-final.

Fareez will now play Dheva in the bronze medal playoff match which will be held at the same time as the final.

In the group stage, Liek Hou defeated Suryo while Fareez toppled Dheva.
