Soon Huat-Shevon stun world No. 2 home pair to reach China Open semis

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie pulled off a sensational win over world No. 2 and home favourites Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin to storm into the semi-finals of the China Open.

Soon Huat-Shevon were on top of their game as they needed just 33 minutes to beat the recent Hong Kong Open champions 23-21, 21-16 at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou on Friday (Sept 20).

It was the world No. 12 pair's first victory over the high-flying Zhenbang-Yaxin after losing all five of their past meetings.

Soon Huat-Shevon will next take on another home pair, world No. 22 Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi for a place in the final.

Men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also made it into the last four after overcoming fellow Malaysians Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun 21-19, 21-18.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin will next face either Indonesia's Shohibul Fikri-Daniel Marthin or Denmark's Rasmus Kjaer-Frederik Sogaard.
