Joy for Soon Huat-Shevon as they reach China Open final

Mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat (left) and Shevon Lai Jemie stormed into the final of the China Open on Saturday (Sept 21).

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie made a huge breakthrough by reaching their first World Tour Super 1000 final in the China Open.

Soon Huat-Shevon fought brilliantly to oust home pair Cheng Xing-Zhang Chi 21-18, 21-18 in 50 minutes in a closely fought last-four match at the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium in Changzhou on Saturday (Sept 21).

It was sweet revenge for the independent pair, who had lost in their last two meetings against the world No. 22 Chinese duo, the Spain Masters in March and the Japan Open last month.

Soon, Huat-Shevon have now made it into their third final this year after they captured the Swiss Open in March and the Malaysian Masters in May.

Standing in the world No. 12 pair's way to their biggest title ever will be either another home pair, world No. 3 Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping or Indonesia's world No. 16 Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emmanuelle.
