PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s loss is another country’s gain – the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) are on the verge of losing a coach to another top Asian country.
BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh confirmed that an experienced coach could be leaving the country to take up a position as head coach in another country.
Kenny though is remaining mum on the identity of the coach and said the official announcement would be made soon.
“I cannot reveal who the coach is. We need to wait for the official announcement,” said Kenny.
“He is an experienced coach. I can’t say anything more than that.”
Earlier, Kenny had shared the news via Twitter.
“I have just received some happy news. A Malaysian coach will most likely be appointed as a head coach of a national team in Asia,” posted Kenny.
“It’s good to see our coaches progressing and I had played a small part in the development of this progress.”
This will not be the first time a Malaysian coach heads abroad for a new position.
Among the coaches, who have opted for new pastures are Datuk Misbun Sidek, former national singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann, Jeremy Gan, Chin Eei Hui, Lim Pek Siah and many more.Misbun is currently coaching in Thailand, Choong Hann in Hong Kong, Jeremy in Japan, Eei Hui in New Zealand and Pek Siah in Singapore.
There is a possibility that the coach heading abroad this time is from the current BAM set-up.
National coaching director Rexy Mainaky is set to have a meeting with the BAM management to discuss possible coaching changes in the national body.
Currently, the local coaches guiding the senior team are Datuk Tey Seu Bock, James Chua (men’s singles), K. Yogendran (women’s singles), Tan Bin Shen (men’s doubles), Hoon Thien How (women’s doubles), Lutfi Zaim and Poh Chai Boon (mixed doubles).
In the junior team, the local coaches are Misbun Ramdan, Goh Giap Chin, Hazwan Jamaluddin (boys’ singles), Pang Cheh Chang (boys’ and mixed doubles) and Amelia Anscelly (girls’ doubles).
