PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin are hungry for more scalps after sending Hong Kong top seeds Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet packing in the quarter-finals of the Macau Open.
World No. 29 Pang Ron-Su Yin recorded their biggest win since combining last November when they toppled world No. 8 Chun Man-Ying Suet 21-18, 21-18 yesterday.
The former could have even scored a more emphatic win when they led 19-13 in the first game and 11-5 in the second but allowed the Hong Kong pair to narrow the gap before holding their nerves to come away with the victory.
Pang Ron-Su Yin are hoping to continue their fine run when they take on Indonesia’s third seeds and world No. 11 Dejan Ferdinansyah-Gloria Emmanuelle in the last four today.
“Our partnership is getting better and better but we still have a lot to learn,” said Pang Ron.
“Every time we improve, it will definitely boost our confidence. We hope to keep going.”
It will be Pang Ron-Su Yin’s first semi-finals this year since reaching the same stage in the Orleans Masters in March.
The pair struggled for find their feet after that before showing improvement by reaching back-to-back quarter-finals in the Hong Kong and China Opens over the last two weeks which pushed them into the top 30 in the world rankings.
Meanwhile, independent pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien’s run came to an end after they went down 16-21, 20-22 to China’s fifth seeds Guo Xinwa-Chen Fanghui.
In the men’s doubles, veteran independent pair Tan Wee Kiong-Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub continued their good run when they fought hard to upstage Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 19-21, 21-19, 21-18.
World No. 48 Wee Kiong-Azriyn will go up against Indonesia’s world No. 17 Sabar Karyaman-Moh Reza today for a place in the final.
Youngsters Fazriq Razif-Bryan Goonting though found Taiwan’s Lee Fang-chih-Lee Fang-jen a tough nut to crack and lost out 7-21, 11-21.
