Chong Wei honours Hendrawan with heartfelt message

PETALING JAYA: Former men's singles great Datuk Lee Chong Wei has posted a heartfelt message to former coach Hendrawan in his social media.

Hendrawan will be parting ways with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) at the end of this month after 15 years in the national body.

The Indonesian guided Chong Wei in the BAM from 2009 until the latter's retirement from the sport in 2019.

Under Hendawan, Chong Wei captured two of his three silver medals in the 2012 London and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

"Goodbyes are never easy, especially when they come from someone who has been by your side through thick and thin, both on and off the court," wrote Chong Wei in his post on Wednesday (Oct 2).

"Coach Hendrawan, you've been more than a mentor, you've been like a badminton brother figure!

"Your patience, wisdom and passion for the game are unparalleled. Yes, of course you have contributed to my success.

"We've experienced moments of fun, sweat and tears! Even though you are going on to other challenges, your influence on my career and Malaysian badminton will last a lifetime!

"Thank you for everything, Coach. I wish you all the best in your upcoming adventure. Once a coach, always a coach, regardless of where you are!

"Thank you, Coach Pak Hendrawan! This is a sincere tribute to you for your contribution to me, my family, Malaysian badminton and the whole badminton arena," added Chon
