PETALING JAYA: Shuttlers Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting were busy as a bee when they played in three events in the tie against Denmark but they did well to win it all.

Yesterday, Malaysia continued to thrive under the new rally scoring format by reaching the mixed team semi-finals in the World Junior Championships in Nanchang, China after beating the Danes 110-85.

The team have assured a bronze by virtue of reaching the semis and will play top seeds China next. China beat Taiwan 110-74 in another quarter-finals.

The other semi-final will be between Indonesia and Japan.

Xin Yee played in two singles and one doubles with Carmen. Carmen also teamed up with Dania Sofea in another girls’ doubles and Aaron Tai in the mixed doubles.

Team members are allowed to play a maximum of four events. The rally scoring format sees an end of every one-game match after 11 points and the team will have to play 10 one-game matches.

Carmen was happy to get it right despite being on the toes.

“The format is challenging as every point is important. I’m glad that I was able to deliver for the team,” said Carmen.

Boys’ singles player Mohd Faiq Masawi also showed his prowess by playing in both singles and doubles events. Faiq and Lok Hong Quan defeated Philip Kryger Boe-Jakob Clausen 22-12 after Xin Yee had ousted Kajsa van Dalm 11-8 in the opening match.

Faiq returned later to beat William Bogebjerg to bring the rally scoring to 55-38.

Malaysia won a bronze in the mixed team event at the last edition in Spokane in United States.
