Mei Xing intends to go far with Pei Kee to prove a point

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Teoh Mei Xing has a point to prove.

She is hoping to go far with partner Go Pei Kee in the women’s doubles at the Malaysia Super 100 from Oct 15-20 to show the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) that she deserves to stay on in the national team.

The BAM have only named Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah in the elite squad while all others are under review.

Mei Xing has yet to make an impact with Pei Kee since they started playing together officially in June.

In fact, Pei Kee is Mei Xing’s third partner as previously, Mei Xing had played with Anna Cheong in the women’s doubles and Hoo Pang Ron in the mixed doubles.

The 27-year-old Mei Xing admits that her performance with Pei Kee is not good enough and that has raised questions on their potential as a pair.

“This partnership with Pei Kee is not similar to what I had previously established with Anna, where Anna and I could easily play and build instant rapport,” said Mei Xing.

“But, I am trying to build that relationship with Pei Kee too and communicate better in our game.

“I do not want to leave BAM but I know that I’ve not played in my last few tournaments.

“I have no clue whether I will get a new partner or remain in the squad. I can only do my best and prove myself at the Malaysian meet.”

Mei Xing hopes together with Pei Kee, they can focus on implementing better game strategies and foster a good bond together.

“Our strength in playing is still lower compared to the other highly ranked players,” said Mei Xing.

“Before this, coach Hoon Thien How told us to improve our strategy and tactics.

“Pei Kee and I are front court players so we are training to adapt to the different positions accordingly.

“I must admit changing partners three times did impact me in terms of consistent playing.

“But I would like to stay focused on doing my best with Pei Kee. She is a good player too.’’
