Aaron-Wooi Yik survive scare to reach Denmark Open second round

PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik survived a scare against Japan's Kenya Mitsuhashi-Hiroki Okamura before booking their spot in the second round of the Denmark Open.

World No. 4 Aaron-Wooi Yik, who are the defending champions, were pushed hard in the first game by the world No. 19 Japanese duo and had to use all their experience to eventually prevail 28-26 and then comfortably won the second 21-11 in 48 minutes at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense on Tuesday (Oct 15).

The Paris Olympics bronze medallists will take on world No. 15 teammates Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun in the second round on Thursday (Oct 17).

Wei Chong-Kai Wun swept aside England's Callum Hemming-Ethan Van Leeuwen 21-11, 21-10 in their opening match.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, world No. 10 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie suffered an early exit after going down 21-9, 22-24, 10-21 to French pair Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue.
