Coach Joo-bong as special advisor for Malaysia?

Park Joo-bong

ODENSE: Will Malaysia engage Park Joo-bong as their special advisor?

The reputable Joo-bong, who is here at the ongoing Denmark Open, will no longer be the head coach of Japan after serving there for 20 years. His contract, that ends in December, has not been renewed.

At 60, it will be hard for Joo-bong to be on the ground again and follow the teams for every tournament but he can be an asset as an advisor.

Malaysia are looking for a men's singles coach as a replacement for Hendrawan of Indonesia.

Joo-bong is unlikely to take up that position but the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) can engage him as an advisor.

The Korean can support national coaching director Rexy Mainaky. He may not even have to be there daily but he can contribute by sharing his knowledge, helping in planning, and empowering coaches to be better.

As Malaysia are looking at strengthening the coaching and training at the start of their four-year Olympic cycle, the presence of Joo-bong can make a difference.

Will BA of Malaysia go for it?
