Last-eight ache for Xin Yee and Letshanaa, no thanks to Japan

Frustration: Letshanaa reacting after her loss to asuka takahashi.

PETALING JAYA: It was despair for women’s singles shuttlers Ong Xin Yee and K. Letshanaa when they both lost to Japanese players in the quarter finals of the Malaysia Super 100.

Xin Yee went down 21-17, 19-21, 4-21 to Akari Kurihara while Letshanaa fell 19-21, 16-21 to fourth seeded Asuka Takahashi.

The defeats ended Malaysia’s challenge in the women’s singles.

“I didn’t think too much as usual. I know she is a high ranked player. I was down for the challenge to give my best playing one to one with her, “ said Xin Yee.

“I put no pressure on myself, I just wanted to enjoy my game.”

She did not make any excuses despite having muscle pain and just focused on completing the remaining games.

Apparently, Xin Yee had suffered this since her first game in the qualifying rounds four days ago, but chose to soldier on.

She refused to let her hamstring tear on her right leg hold her back, and was determined to play through the pain yesterday.

She mentioned that there was pain in the quadriceps of both legs when she was playing.

Meanwhile, Letshanaa was equally disappointed after her defeat.

“I am disappointed too in this game. I thought I could win because I made it all the way here,” said Letshanaa.

“My opponent was strong, and her tactics were very good. I’m frustrated but I’m not losing any sleep over it as I will focus on improving my form to play better in my next tournaments.’’

Meanwhile, there was better news in the women’s doubles as Malaysia are assured of a finalist after Go Pei Kee-Teoh Mei Xing set up a last-four clash against Ng Qi Xuan-Yap Rui Chen.
