PETALING JAYA: Independent shuttler Ng Qi Xuan needs to undergo surgery that could cost up to RM 30,000 after suffering a serious knee injury.

Qi Xuan picked up the injury when she was on the verge of victory along with Yap Rui Chen when leading 22-20, 20-18 in the Malaysia Super 100 women's doubles semi-final against Teo Mei Xing-Go Pei Kee on Saturday (Oct 19) and had to retire from the match.

After undergoing a scan, Qi Xuan said via social media: "The scan results are out and the results are torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), my lateral cruciate ligament (LCL) loosened and a little bit of bone stress fracture.

"To be honest, I was kind of shocked with the results as this is my first major injury. I have to undergo surgery which will cost from RM 25,000 to RM 30,000."
