It feels good to be back

Right man for the job: Rosman Razak has a tough task to raise the standards of the pairs behind Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah.

PETALING JAYA: Newly appointed coach Rosman Razak is out to help improve the standard of the women’s doubles in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

Rosman will return to BAM as the new women’s doubles head coach after four years.

The 48-year-old, who left BAM in 2020 after nearly two decades, will replace Hoon Thien How, who has been moved to coach the junior men’s doubles.

Rosman will leave his position as independent coach for the likes of men’s doubles pairs Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi and officially start work at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Nov 5.

“I want to thank BAM for trusting me to shoulder this responsibility. I am honoured to be back at BAM and excited to take on this challenge,” said Rosman.

“I will do my best to improve the standard of the women’s doubles players especially the younger ones.

“The women’s doubles department has immense potential and I am looking forward to building on the progress over the years.

“I also want to express my deepest appreciation to sponsor Lining Sunlight for working with me for almost two years.

“Thank you to all the professional players for their trust in me. I’m confident that all the players will continue doing well under the guidance of coach Teo Kok Siang. It’s time for me to start work,” added Rosman.

National coaching director Rexy Mainaky was happy to have Rosman back in BAM and believes his experience will be crucial in elevating the standard of the women’s doubles players.

“We welcome Rosman back into the coaching team. His years of experience with the national team are invaluable,” said Rexy.

“We believe that his leadership will be instrumental in driving the women’s doubles squad to new heights.”

Rosman will be reunited with national No. 1 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah after combining them in the first place and will be out to take the world No. 7 to greater heights.

More importantly, he has a tough task to raise the standards of the pairs behind Pearly-Thinaah.

Among Rosman’s first tasks will be to evaluate the players behind the high flying duo and decide which ones will remain in BAM or in the women’s doubles.

The players currently awaiting their fates are Teoh Mei Xing, Go Pei Kee, Lee Xin Jie, Cheng Su Hui, Amanda Yap, Chan Wen Tse, Chong Jie Yu, Vanessa Ng and Vannee Gobi.

Mei Xing-Pei Kee will be hoping to impress Rosman and retain their spots after moving up 27 places to No. 85 in the latest world rankings after capturing the Malaysia Super 100.
