Low-Ng hope to extend winning form in Indonesia next week

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong hope that winning their maiden World Tour title in the Malaysia Super 100 will be a fresh start for them.

Hang Yee-Eng Cheong were struggling to find their feet this year before turning around their form by capturing the home crown.

The independent pair lost in the early rounds in 13 of their 14 tournaments this year and only made it into the semi-finals once in the Taiwan Masters in June.

Hang Yee-Eng Cheong’s drop in form was surprising as they were flying high last year after combining in the beginning of the year when they captured the Slovenian Open, Austrian Open and Mongolian International titles.

The duo also finished runners-up in the Maldives and China International but found it tougher in higher tier events this year.

However, Hang Yee-Eng Cheong showed some of their best form in the Malaysian tourney and hope to continue their good performance when they compete next in the Super 100 Indonesian Masters, which starts on Tuesday.

The pair, who moved up three rungs to No. 49 in the latest world rankings, are out to break into the top 32 as soon as possible.

“I know that we were not performing well earlier this year, so this title is a good start for us to regain our confidence,” said Eng Cheong.

“We believe we can continue this momentum in our next tournament. We are more motivated to do well. Our target is to break into the top 32.”

Hang Yee-Eng Cheong have a good opportunity to win another title in Indonesia as they are the second seeds in the tournament.

They will open their campaign against another Malaysian pair Lee Wen Chang-Tan Ming Kang.
