Don’t Harbour hopes of coach Eei Hui returning - she’s doing fine with club in Auckland

PETALING JAYA: Former top doubles shuttler and national coach Chin Eei Hui is happy to remain in New Zealand as a coach.

And there is no reason for her to return home as she is doing a good job as the coach of the North Harbour Badminton Club in Auckland.

There was speculation that Eei Hui may take over Rosman Razak’s place as the coach of the independent players here in Malaysia but she said she was enjoying her stint in the Kiwi land.

“North Harbour is New Zealand’s strongest badminton club and I’m just doing good here. I’ve no plans to return home,” said Eei Hui.

In fact, in the recent North Harbour International tournament last week, Eei Hui’s players Edward Lau-Shaunna Li emerged as the mixed doubles runners-up.

Eei Hui, who guided top mixed pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying to a silver medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, left for New Zealand in January last year.

She recently signed up with sports equipment brand Victor, sparking speculation that she may coach professionals Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, who are also sponsored by the same company.

“It has been a good learning experience in New Zealand. Here, I have to communicate more with the players,” she said.

“And I need to be more patient. I still have lots more to learn because the culture here is different, but it’s fulfilling to be here,” added Eei Hui, who was named as the national female Coach of the Year in 2016.
