Back injury puts paid to June Wei’s chance of playing in S. Korea

PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Cheam June Wei has withdrawn from the Korean Masters due to back injury.

The professional player June Wei was drawn to play Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul of Thailand in the first round of the tournament starting today at Iksan City.

He has also pulled out from the Kumamoto Masters next week but is expected to resume competition at the Syed Modi International from Nov 26-Dec 1 in Lucknow.

“I’ve decided to pull out from the meet in South Korea and Japan. I’ve been having this back injury since July, I picked it up during training before the Taiwan Open,” lamented June Wei.

“It has affected me during training and competition. Let me have a rest first before I fully recover.”

In his absence, Malaysia’s title hopefuls will be Justin Hoh and Jacky Kok.

Justin will take on eighth seed Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand in the opening game while Jacky will play a qualifier.
