Calling shuttlers to light up World Chinese Masters Lightning Cup

PETALING JAYA: Exciting competitions are set to take place in the World Chinese Masters Lightning Cup from Dec 12-15 at the Sports Arena Sentosa in Kuala Lumpur.

Organized by Petaling BC and supported by redONE, Apacs, and Resorts World Genting, this year’s event promises to be a spectacular gathering of badminton enthusiasts from around the globe, especially in the Open category.

The tournament also have different age group events and three-on-three matches.

Players ranked top 100 in the Badminton World Federation ranking are not eligible to participate.

And ex-professionals aged 55 and above may enter the amateur group, but they cannot be paired up with another ex-professional in a double event. Players under 55 must enter the Open category.

Datuk Jack Koh, the organizing committee chairman said the tournament, that comes under the flagship of World Chinese Badminton Federation (WCBF), was named after Wong Wei Choy also know as Looi Suk or Uncle Looi.

"The tournament is named the “World Chinese Masters Lightning Cup” in honor of our Looi Suk (lightning). He has shaped Malaysian badminton, dedicating his life to nurturing elite players and establishing a thriving badminton ecosystem," said Jack.

He has also been instrumental in mentoring and supporting some of Malaysia’s most celebrated badminton champions. Among them are Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Choong Tan Fook, Aaron Chia, Soh Wooi Yik, Chen Tang Jie, Man Wei Chong, Tee Kai Wun, and Leong Jun Hao.

"His work with these athletes demonstrates his deep commitment to developing talent at all levels and helping players reach their full potential," added Jack.

Open Group: Men and women's singles; men and women doubles, mixed doubles.

Amateur Group: Men and women's singles; men and women doubles, mixed doubles, couples doubles (based on husband's age), combined age doubles,

3P (mixed three-on-three).

Age Groups: Youth group (25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44); middle age group (45-49, 50-54, 55-59); senior group (60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79), veteran group (80-84, 85+); combined age groups from 100-160; 3P combined age groups from 200-220.
