Justin wins first round but Letshanaa loses in India

PETALING JAYA: National singles shuttler Justin Hoh scrapped through the men's singles first round of the Syed Modi International but it was the end for K. Letshanaa.

The unseeded Justin had to did deep into reserve to beat India's Mithun Manjunath 21-18, 17-21, 21-17 in the first round in Lucknow on Wednesday (Nov 27).

He will play eighth seed Ayush Shetty of India in the second round next.

Letshanaa was unfortunate to be drawn against China's Dai Wang and went down 16-21, 19-21 in the opener of the women's singles event.

In the mixed doubles, Malaysia's Loo Bing Kun-Ho Lo Ee defeated Ram Arigela-Vennala Kalagotla of India 21-15, 21-15.

Many top players have skipped the Super 300 tournament, allowing a sea of local players playing in the main draw. In fact, world No. 14 Lakshya Sen is the top seed in the men's singles.
