Fareez-Liek Hou strike gold in Bahrain


KUALA LUMPUR: Mohd Fareez Anuar and Cheah Liek Hou again showed their prowess by clinching the gold medal in the men’s doubles SU-5 category (physical impairment) at the 2024 Bahrain Para Badminton International Championship held in Manama.

In the final at Isa Sport City on Sunday, the duo defeated Indonesia’s Dheva Anrimusthi-Hafizh Briliansyah Prawiranegara 13-21, 21-17, 21-16 in a gruelling 59-minute battle.

This marks the Malaysian pair’s second victory over the same opponents, having also defeated them at the 2024 Royal Beach Cliff Para Badminton World Championships.

Fareez also secured a silver medal in the SU-5 singles event, losing 15-21, 17-21 to Dheva in the final.

Liek Hou claimed the bronze medal after losing to Fareez in the semi-finals, with a close scoreline of 17-21, 22-20, 21-23. — Bernama
