KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s doubles shuttlers Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi brought cheers to the home fans in the Malaysian Open by pulling off a sensational win over Indonesia’s world No. 4 Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto in the first round.

World No. 24 Yew Sin-Ee Yi fought brilliantly to come from behind to claim a 15-21, 21-17, 21-13 victory at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Wednesday (Jan 8).

Fajar-Rian, who captured the title in 2022, were the hot favourites but the independent pair used all their experience to send them packing in 62 minutes.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi will likely face South Korea’s scratch pair Kang Min-hyuk-Jin Yong next for a place in the last eight.

Min-hyuk is the reigning world champion with Seo Seung-jae.
