KUALA LUMPUR: Shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik’s challenge in the Malaysian Open is over after the men’s doubles duo lost out to Taiwan’s Lee Fang-chih-Lee Fang-jen in the second round.
World No. 6 Aaron-Wooi Yik could not produce their best form and went down 14-21, 18-21 to the world No. 27 Taiwanese pair at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Thursday (Jan 9).
With the defeat, Aaron-Wooi Yik failed to give their coach Tan Bin Shen a farewell gift before the latter leave to Hong Kong.
Aaron-Wooi Yik were disappointed after failing to rise to the occasion in front of the home fans.
A dejected Aaron said: "We did not play well today. We made many unforced errors and could not keep the pressure on our opponents.
"They were calmer on court while we gave away easy points."
On playing under coach Tan Bin Shen for the last time, Aaron said: "We are disappointed that we could go far in this tournament under Bin Shen but we have achieved other results such as winning bronze at the Olympic Games, so we are satisfied."
Bin Shen will begin his job as Hong Kong's coach after the Malaysian Open.
