KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun pulled off an impressive win over Taiwan’s Lee Jhe-huei-Yang Po-hsuan to reach the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open for the first time.

World No. 14 Wei Chong-Kai Wun were in commanding form when they needed only 31 minutes to claim a 21-15, 21-13 victory over world No. 10 Jhe-huei-Po-hsun at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Thursday (Jan 9).

The homesters will next play either Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard or French pair Toma Junior Popov-Christo Popov for a place in the last four.

Wei Chong was over the moon.

“They are a top pair but we prepared well for this year. We had a few lucky shots that went in our favour as well,” said Wei Chong.

“We did better in the service and receiving and that was the key to our win.

“Overall, we are happy with our performance today.”

Wei Chong-Kai Wun had lost to Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto of Indonesia in the opening round of last year's Malaysian Open.
