KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei were in fiery form as they joined fellow Malaysians Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in the last four of the home Open.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei needed only 36 minutes to oust Japan’s world No. 14 Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Satio 21-11, 21-18 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Friday (Jan 10).

The world No. 5 pair though have a tough challenge next against China’s world No. 1 Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei have never reached a World Tour Super 1000 final before and have an opportunity to end their wait when they face the Chinese pair on Saturday (Jan 11).

Both Tang Jie and Ee Wei were delighted.

Tang Jie said: “It’s a great achievement for us to reach our first semi-finals in this tournament and we will give our very best for our next match

“The Chinese pair are very strong and consistent. We will try to challenge them as much as we can.”

Chipped in Ee Wei: “The second game was quite tough but we focused on staying stable on court and we managed to overcome the challenge."

“We trust each other a lot and we are happy that we managed to bring out our game.”
