KUALA LUMPUR: Hopes of seeing another Malaysian representative in the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open were dashed after men’s doubles pair Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin lost to India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the quarter finals.

Ee Yi-Yew Sin will surely be looking back at the opening game with regret. Despite having the upper hand, the Indian duo remained determined and managed to edge past them with a 26-24 win.

In the second game, Ee Yi-Yew Sin were unable to replicate the same form, appearing sluggish before allowing the Indians to secure their semi-final spot with a 21-15 victory.

Said Ee Yi: "We were still leading until the 11-point mark in the second game. However, they changed their strategy midway, which made things difficult for us.

“They managed to contain our attacks, and their towering physical presence was an added advantage. Their offensive play was also exceptional today, making it even harder for us to keep up."

Earlier, Malaysia had already confirmed three representatives in the semi finals, with mixed doubles pairs Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jamie, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, and men's doubles pair Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun winning their respective quarter-finals matches.

Ee Yi and Yew Sin will now head to New Delhi to compete in the Indian Open next week.
