Jun Hao stuns China's Shifeng to reach Indian Open second round

PETALING JAYA: Men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao pulled off a sensational win over China's world No. 6 Li Shifeng to progress to the second round of the Indian Open.

Jun Hao had never beaten Shifeng before, losing all four of his previous meetings including in the Japan Masters final last November, but fought brilliantly to come away with a 18-21, 21-17, 21-17 victory at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday (Jan 14).

The world No. 28 got off to a bad start, trailing 1-11 in the first game but refused to give up and raised his game to claim the huge upset win in an exhausting 78-minute match.

Jun Hao, who is Malaysia's sole representative in the singles in the tourney, will next take on another Chinese, world No. 21 Weng Hongyang for a place in the last eight.
