Tang Jie-Ee Wei rise to career-high No. 3 in the world

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have reached a career-high No. 3 in the latest world rankings.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei moved up two spots from No. 5 after making it into the semi-finals of the Malaysian Open recently.

The pair went down to China's world No. 1 Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping but their encouraging performance in the home Open was enough for them to achieve another milestone in their careers.

There was also good news for independent pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Li Jemie, who achieved their career-best ranking of No. 4.

Soon Huat-Shevon lost to Thailand's eventual champions Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran in the last four of the Malaysian tourney but their spirited showing saw them move up two spots from No. 6.

Another pair, Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin climbed two spots to No. 18 despite suffering a first-round defeat to Taiwan's Lu Ming-che-Hung En-tzu in the home Open.

In the Indian Open which started Tuesday (Jan 14) in New Delhi, Tang Jie-Ee Wei replaced Yanzhe-Dongping as the top seed after the latter withdrew from the tournament.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei were supposed to play Pang Ron-Su Yin in the opening round but will now face Taiwan's Ye Hong-wei-Nicole Chan.

Pang Ron-Su Yin will take on Japan's world No. 13 Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito while Soon Huat-Shevon will meet Indonesia's new pairing Rinov Rivaldy-Lisa Ayu.
