Soon Huat-Shevon battle into Indian Open q-finals

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie continued their impressive run at the Indian Open, securing a hard-fought victory over Japan's Yuta Watanabe-Maya Taguchi to book their spot in the quarterfinals.

Playing at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi, the fourth-seeded pair continued their fine form, displaying resilience to secure a 21-10, 19-21, 21-16 victory in a 59-minute battle.

"Overall, we did okay. I think in the second game, I felt nervous and rushed the game a bit, which caused me to make a lot of unforced errors.

"So, for me, today’s performance was average," Shevon said in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation (BWF) on Thursday (Jan 16).

The duo will now await the winner of the match between Taiwan’s fifth seeds Yang Po-hsuan-Hu Ling-fang and home pair Ashith Surya-Amrutha Pramuthesh to determine their quarterfinal opponents on Friday (Jan 17).
