KUALA LUMPUR: Women’s singles shuttler S. Kisona's run came to end in the second round of the Thailand Masters on Thursday (Jan 30) in Bangkok.
She went down fighting 21-13, 14-21, 17-21 to third seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia.
On Wednesday, the former SEA Games gold medallist defeated India’s Tanya Hemanth 15-21, 21-11, 21-13.
The challenge of K. Letshanaa had ended earlier in the opening round on Wednesday when she fell 10-21, 24-22, 18-21 to Taiwan’s Tung Ciou-tong in a hard-fought match.
In the men’s singles, Justin Hoh also suffered an early exit after losing to Indonesia’s Mohd Zaki Ubaidullah 21-17, 12-21, 13-21.
Ubaidullah had earlier battled through the qualifying rounds to make the main draw.
Cheam Jun Wei, too, was sent packing after a narrow defeat to India’s S. Sankar Muthusamy, losing 21-15, 15-21, 19-21.
Qualifier Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin continued his fine form, easing past India’s Mithun Manjunath 21-14, 21-13 to book a second-round clash against China’s Wang Zhengxing.
Another Malaysian who made it through was Jacky Kok, who had little trouble dispatching of India’s Ayush Shetty 21-15, 21-17 to secure his place in the next round.
In the men’s doubles, Mohd Fazriq Razif, the son of Malaysian badminton legend Datuk Razif Sidek, teamed up with Bryan Jeremy Goonting but fell short 23-25, 21-18, 16-21 to Loh Kean Hean-Howin Wong of Singapore.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Loo Bing Kun-Ho Lo Ee breezed past Israel’s Misha Zilberman-Svetlana Zilberman 21-13, 21-6.
They will next take on Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahaya Jamil.
