PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin have received a timely boost ahead of the All-England from March 11-16 in Birmingham after reaching a career-high No. 14 in the world.
Pang Ron-Su Yin have not had the best of starts this year but moved up one rung from No. 15 after competing in the Asia Mixed Team Championships in Qingdao, China recently.
It was a bittersweet achievement for the pair after they went down in three games to Tang Chun Man-Ng Tsz Yau in the group stage tie against Hong Kong.
Pang Ron-Su Yin though can look ahead to the All-England with optimism after taking another step towards breaking into the world’s top 10.
The duo will be making their first appearance together in Birmingham.
Before that, Pang Ron-Su Yin will compete in the back-to-back German Open (Feb 25-March 2) in Mulheim and Orleans Masters (March 4-9).
Pang Ron-Su Yin will be out to regain their best form in the European tourneys after suffering first round exits in the Malaysian Open and Indian Open before improving slightly to make it into the quarter-finals in the Indonesian Masters last month.
Despite their tough start to the year, the pair have showed before this that they can overcome setbacks.
Pang Ron, 26, and Su Yin, 21 only combined at the end of 2023 and initially struggled to find their feet before impressing in the second half of last year.
The duo’s best achievement was finishing runners-up to home favourites Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping in the China Masters last November Pang Ron-Su Yin also reached the last four in the Orleans Masters and Macau Open.
