PETALING JAYA: There’s light at the end of the tunnel for women’s doubles shuttler Teoh Mei Xing.

Mei Xing has been finding it tough since her previous partner Anna Cheong suffered a serious knee injury in September 2022.

Anna left the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) last year after failing to fully recover and Mei Xing, who turns 28 on March 6, finally seems to have gotten back her mojo with current partner Go Pei Kee.

Mei Xing, who combined with Pei Kee, 22 last April, pulled off a stunning 22-20, 21-12 victory over China’s 2024 Paris Olympics champion Chen Qingchen and her new partner Wang Ting Ge in the German Open second round on Thursday.

It was one of Mei Xing-Pei Kee’s most impressive wins since they started playing together.

The pair came under fire after losing both their matches in the Asia Mixed Team Championships earlier this month against Hong Kong’s world No. 13 Yeung Nga Ting-Yeung Pui Lam and Indonesia’s world No. 60 Meilysa Trias-Rachel Allesya as Malaysia exited the competition in the group stage but have bounced back in style.

Mei Xing-Pei Kee, who are currently ranked No. 47 in the world will next face Japan’s world No. 63 Mizuki Otake-Miyu Takahashi for a place in the last four.

Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi also reached the last eight after beating Taiwan’s Chang Ko-chi-Po Li-wei 21-17, 22-20.

World No. 19 Roy King-Arif though have a tougher task next against South Korea’s Malaysian Open champions Seo Seung-jae-Kim Won-ho.

It was all over though for Malaysia in the men’s singles when both Justin Hoh and Cheam June Wei went down to Singaporean opponents.

World No. 51 Justin fought hard before losing 21-18, 19-21, 12-21 to Thailand Masters champion Jason Teh while Cheam June Wei also gave 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew a scare before going down 21-19, 13-21, 12-21.

In the mixed doubles, world No. 14 Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin also suffered heartbreak when they were beaten 21-17, 11-21, 16-21 by China’s Gao Jiaxuan-Wu Mengying.
