Big win over Thai favourites lifts Pang Ron-Pei Jing into q-finals

PETALING JAYA: Professionals Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing have shown they cannot be taken lightly at the Denmark Open after booking their place in today’s quarter-finals.

The world No. 51 pair head into the last eight on a high after stunning world No. 5 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran of Thailand 21-7, 21-11 in just 24 minutes at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense yesterday.

It was a much-needed result for Pang Ron-Pei Jing after a disappointing first round exit at the Arctic Open last week.

The win over Dechapol-Supissara also gives them a timely lift before they face Japan’s world No. 18 Akira Koga-Natsu Saito today for a place in the semi-finals.

Pang Ron-Pei Jing, however, will still need to be wary of the Japanese pair, who knocked out French world champions and fourth seeds Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue 22-20, 21-19 in the second round yesterday.

For Pang Ron, this has already been a much better campaign in Odense after he missed last year’s edition when his former national partner Cheng Su Yin was sidelined with an ankle injury.

Pei Jing also did not feature last year as her ranking with Jimmy Wong was not high enough to qualify for a top-tier event such as the Super 750 Denmark Open.

A win today would see Pang Ron-Pei Jing match their semi-final finish at the China Masters last month.
