Former M'sian Basketball Association sec-gen Yeoh Choo Hock passes away


PETALING JAYA: Former Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) secretary-general Datuk Yeoh Choo Hock, who contributed significantly to the sport over three decades, has passed away.

Choo Hock, who was 81 years old, passed away peacefully in his home in Putra Heights on Friday (Nov 15).

He held the secretary-general's post for 17 years (1990-2007) and was vice president for two years (2008-2009).

He was also secretary-general of the South-East Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) from 1994 to 2006.

He was secretary-general of International Basketball Federation (Fiba) Asia from 1998 to 2012 and was honoured with the title of secretary-general emeritus of Fiba Asia in 2012.

He was also Fiba vice president from 2003 to 2006.

Maba nominated Choo Hock to be inducted into the Fiba Basketball Hall of Fame.

He also contributed to the sport globally when he served as a Fiba commissioner at four Olympic Games and several Fiba World Championships.

His efforts were also recognised with numerous awards, including the 1997 Best CEO Award by the USA Basketball Association and the 2001 John Wooden Lifetime Service Award.
