SHE had only one week of intensive training – but that was enough for Sarawakian bowler Nur Hazirah Ramli (pic) to snatch the gold medal in the women’s singles at Megalanes Sarawak.
Hazirah, making her final Malaysia Games (Sukma) appearance, was happy to be able to finally deliver a gold for her home state after settling for silver the last time around.
“I am extremely happy to have turned my silver to gold this year, it has been my dream and target to win gold in my final Sukma outing.”
“With so many national and international tournaments leading up to this, I had little time to concentrate on training. And the short week of training was exhausting.
“But being on home ground pushed me to give it my all, and it was absolutely worth it,” said Hazirah, whose last tournament was the Thailand International Open which ended on Aug 3.
The 21-year-old racked up a total of 1,261 points narrowly surpassing Selangor’s Adania Mohd Redzwan by seven points while Federal Territories’ Haiffa Hazlan claimed the bronze with 1,239 points.
Hazirah dedicated her victory to her family, coaches and friends who have always been behind her.
“They are my rock, always pushing me to go on when I feel like giving up. I’m happy knowing that they have my back,” she added.
Although she felt that she could have done better, she was satisfied with the results.
“I had difficulty adjusting to the lanes and maintaining my composure throughout the game but I just kept pushing forward and was focused on doing my best.”
