KUALA LUMPUR: The quality or image of this year’s Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) will not be affected despite the organisers’ decision cut the overall organising cost by RM2mil.
This year’s LTdL, from Feb 27-March 8, is expected to cost RM18mil compared with RM20mil last year.
LTdL chief executive officer Emir Abdul Jalal said that despite the reduced organisational cost, a mammoth grand opening ceremony would be held for the first time.
“This is the first time that a decision to reduce the cost has been taken ... but the overall organisation of the tour or the stages involved will not be affected or compromised,” he said when announcing Telekom Malaysia’s (TM) sponsorship pledge at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil here on Tuesday.
During the function, he also announced that three categories would come under the TM banner – Best Rider, Sprint King and King of the Mountain.
The 19th edition of the LTdL, which will feature 10 stages, will begin in Langkawi, Kedah, and end in Terengganu – covering a total of 1,507.9km. The 22 confirmed teams, including six pro teams, will pass through Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands, Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Pahang. — Bernama
