THE girls knew they had to do something special. And it was a special day indeed for the women’s team sprint trio of Nurul Aliana Syafika Azizan, Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri and Anis Amira Rosidi as they dipped under the 50-second mark three times to put their names in the history books.
Aliana, Izzah and Anis gave Malaysia their first ever medal in women’s team sprint – a bronze – while smashing their own national record of 49.204s by clocking 49.025s. They beat Taiwan’s combination of Hsiao Mei-yu, Wang Tzu-chun, Chen Ching-yun, who posted 50.344s at Chun’an Jieshou Sports Centre Velodrome.
