First-timer blues: Diver Bertrand in action during the Paris Olympic Games. - OCM

PETALING JAYA: It wasn’t the way Bertrand Rhodict wanted his debut Olympics to go as the national diver failed to make the cut in the men’s 10m platform preliminaries.
Bertrand finished 25th out of 26 divers with a total score of 313.70 points. Only the top 18 advance to the semi-final on Friday (Aug 9).
The 19-year-old Sarawakian started his run with a 66.00 in his first dive, but his score plummeted in the following dives as the difficulties increased, scoring 60.80, 49.50, 34.00, and 37.80 in the following attempts.
But his sixth and final attempt was better, giving him 65.60 but it wasn’t enough to see him inside the top 18.
Bertrand was the only male representative in the diving event when he became the first athlete to qualify for the Olympics at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, last year.
