PETALING JAYA: National striker Darren Lok (pic) only thinks of making the nation proud each time he gets on the pitch.
So far the 31-year-old player has impressed with his work rate, but the one thing that was lacking was a goal.
All that changed on Tuesday after he drew first blood for Malaysia in their 4-1 win over Singapore in the final Group B match in the AFF Mitsubishi Cup at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
The player who recently joined Sabah from Petaling Jaya City, anticipated Safawi Rasid’s cross from the right with a brilliant glancing header to beat Singapore’s goalkeeper Hassan Sunny in the 36th minute.
Now that Malaysia are in the semi-finals, Darren hopes to continue that form in the upcoming games against Thailand.
“It was a well-deserved win and we are looking forward to the semi-final. We will go into the game with confidence after this big win against Singapore.
“We want to make Malaysia proud every time we go to the pitch.”
Darren said the boys are eager to go all the way as they want to make sure their five weeks away from family and friends are worthwhile.
