Faisal up to the challenge despite Giant expectation

PETALING JAYA: Selangor’s marquee signing Faisal Abdul Halim (pic) has arrived at the home of the Red Giants with great fanfare thanks to his swashbuckling displays for Terengganu and the national team last year.

But the diminutive forward, who stands at 1.58m (5’2’’), isn’t basking in the limelight.

Faisal is taking the pre-season friendlies seriously as he intends to adapt to his new team quickly and make a big impact in the new Super League season.

The Penang-born Faisal scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions for the Turtles last season, attracting the interest of several top teams before Selangor snapped him up.

He is aware of the high expectations that come with his profile but is game for the challenge.

Faisal said Selangor coach Tan Cheng Hoe’s coaching and playing styles are similar to that of his former coach at Terengganu, Nafuzi Zain, but they have different characters.

“They’re both different personalities. Nafuzi is younger and Cheng Hoe is more experienced and has managed more teams under high-pressure situations,’’ he said.

‘’He has the know-how to get the best out of players in difficult situations.’’
