PETALING JAYA: Sabah winger S. Kumaahran has reminded his teammates not to underestimate newly promoted Police ahead of their first Super League encounter at the Likas Stadium today.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Rhinos from Petaling Jaya City in December last year, said the Cops have bolstered their squad with some top foreign players and have also retained some experienced players who used to play in the Super League.
“We can’t take them lightly. They are a side that just got promoted but that does not mean they are weak. We can see they have made some good signings for the new season,” said Kumaahran, who can also play as an attacking midfielder or second striker.
“Their foreign players have experience in the Super League like Uche (Agba) and Bruno (Suzuki), and their local players are good too. If we are not focused, we will be punished.’’
Kumaahran, however, said Sabah have prepared well for the season, with many of the new players having fitted in nicely.
Kumaahran is one of Sabah’s new signings along with Portuguese midfielder Telmo Castanheira, Brazilian centreback Gabriel Peres, Brazilian winger Jailton Paraiba, Nigerian striker Jacob Njoku, South Korean winger Kwang Ko-min, leftbacks Daniel Ting and R. Dinesh, winger Jefri Firdaus Chew, midfielder Danial Haqim Draman and striker Darren Lok.
Sabah had a two-month pre-season preparation which included a tour to Thailand, where they played closed-door friendly matches against Thai and South Korean clubs.
